Our Mission

We are dedicated to sharing the humanity in ugly stories, warts and all. We tell honest, hard-hitting stories, shining a light on the messy parts of life and the all-too-human ability to get through it.

At our core, we are keen to play with movement, push the technical boundaries of stage design and prioritise accessibility.

"A young theatre company to keep an eye out for."

"You can look forward to seeing where [Scar Theatre] goes next."

Our Work

The Great Gatsby (The Cockpit, '24; Oxford Playhouse, '23)

Written and Directed by Peter Todd and Mina Moniri

Accompanied by a riotous live jazz band, this new, subversive adaptation of The Great Gatsby retells the Jazz-Age classic from a queer, feminist perspective.

Nick, a young and ambitious stockbroker, is befriended by the illusive millionaire, Jay Gatsby. At first enamoured with the lavish lifestyle of the nouveau-riche, Nick soon begins to see through the cracks in Gatsby's façade, where deception and tragedy lie in wait.

Set against the glamorous backdrop of New York in the roaring twenties, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby tells a heart-breaking tale of social stratification, excess and unfulfilled love that treads the line of dark obsession.

SKIN (Jack Studio, '23; O'Reilly Theatre, '22)

Written and Directed by Peter Todd

In the prime of her early twenties, Sadie is diagnosed with melanoma.  Her quiet life is quickly over-shadowed as she learns to navigate life with a chronic illness: getting poked, prodded and bombarded with questions.

When medical staff are all-too-focused on the physical symptoms, Sadie turns to her sister to rediscover her sense of self beyond a diagnosis. Complete with an immersive sensory MRI experience, SKIN is a bold new play by up-and-coming writer-director, Peter Todd, sharing a candid yet amusing view of Sadie’s experience.

Bury Me (Riverside Studios, '24)

Written and Directed by Mina Moniri

It's the day of her brother's funeral and all Nadia wants to do is get the day over with. Just one slight hitch: his body is nowhere to be found.

'Bury Me' is a one-act comedy-drama about weird family members, clerical errors, and the love we carry with us.

Straddle (Hen & Chickens, '24; Bread & Roses, '24)

Written by Peter Todd and Directed by Mina Moniri

Have you ever lied to an ‘Am I Gay?’ quiz? Have you ever googled ‘how to be straight’? Are you just f*cking furious? Then this show is for you. Yes, you. Hi, gay.

‘Straddle’ is a genre-bending, comedic monologue following the ups, downs and sideways tangents of one 15-year friendship. Faking straightness, failed dates, faeces and murderously unhinged fantasies collide in a whirlwind of gay panic.
